File formats and cameras I take

I edit in DaVinci Resolve, which opens footage from almost every camera and phone. What to send and when to check first.

I edit in DaVinci Resolve, which opens footage from almost every camera, phone and screen recorder in common use. In practice that means the files your camera made are the files to send. Don't convert them first.

Send as-is:

  • Phone video (iPhone and Android, including HEVC)
  • Mirrorless and DSLR files (MP4, MOV, MTS)
  • Camera card folders, whole, the way they came off the card
  • Separate audio from a recorder or a soundboard (WAV is best)
  • Screen recordings and Zoom or Riverside exports

Tell me before you send:

  • Footage from a cinema camera with its own raw format. Usually fine, I just want to know what's coming.
  • Anything shot at different frame rates on different cameras. Not a problem, but it changes how I set up the project.

Working in Premiere Pro? Tell me at the start. I cut in Resolve and hand the timeline over in a form Premiere opens, see what you get back.

If you're not sure, send one short clip first and I'll tell you whether it opens clean.

Logos and graphics: a vector file (SVG, AI, EPS or PDF) or a large PNG with a transparent background. A screenshot of your website logo will look soft on screen.
